INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY: SCIENTISTS

 
    For centuries, women have made notable contributions to the field of science. They discovered life-saving medicines, engineered world-changing inventions, and led cutting-edge research; however, in many cases, their invaluable advances have been underestimated or overlooked.
    
    Picking up the game designed during the first term, we analyze how studies have repeatedly reported that math and science are perceived as male domains, and scientists as predominantly male. We discover the impact of the gender image of school science texts observing the proportion of females and males scientists we have included in the games. This ends to promote reflection on gender stereotypes around professions in the sciences and to raise awareness of scientific research by women.


 










 



 

Searching for methods of purification or recovery of water

 
 
Water scarcity refers to the lack of fresh water resources to meet water demand.  
Water has vital role for sustaining life on earth by regulating ecosystem functioning, preserving environmental quality, and supporting human health and welfare. To date, the sustainable use of water resources faces grand challenges arising from population growth, fragile economic context, increased water demand, need to ensure food security, quality deterioration, and ageing infrastructures.
 
These challenges are not addressed effectively in the existing water governance plans, underlining the need for developing more sophisticated water management schemes adapted to changing conditions and requirements. 
 
Current insights in water resource management stress the importance of integrated, multi-sectoral, and (inter) national management plans, considering background specialties of the areas and motivating all the involved actors from governmental services and agencies, the private sector, the academy, and the public.
 
Students will investigate about methods of  purification or recovery of water  and the best one for each area.
 
 
 
 
 They will make a model and a poster in order to understand how it works. Then, they will explain to their classmates and display them in the hall.

WHY DESIGN GAMES?
Science classes are spaces that challenge students to think and ask questions and to develop ideas and solutions through scientific play and problem solving.
Each of the hands-on exhibits is designed to give them the freedom to explore, investigate, create and discover – at their own pace and in their own way.
In this case, students can create their own games, test their own designs and make their own discoveries.

GUESS WHO: THE GAME
The traditional game was called Who's Who and basically consisted of guessing which character our rival had chosen by asking questions about their physique or appearance.


CASE STUDY: SCIENTISTS
Students customize the traditional Guess who game to enhance their lesson plans, creating their own with photos or drawings of the chosen scientists. They also provide some information about their life, their successes, their profession or some little-known detail about them.

Healthy recipes

 These are some of the posters with delicious recipes our 1º ESO bilingual students have created. They also filmed themselves while cooking them! As a result, we have all learnt new meals to cook and eat at home with our families. Yummy!!!!
